I'm girding up to tackling the Napoleonic Range on the Lone S Ranger blog. While the foot figures are reasonably straightforward, confidently identifying the mounted figures is more difficult, as they don't carry code numbers, there are few pictures of them identified in the old catalogues, often the figures I have may have erratic or misleading paint jobs, and because there may not be many differences between various nations' hussars or lancers.
I could sit down and do some proper uniform research - but I thought I would ask you instead. Some of the figures I think I have identified; for some I don't have a clue. I haven't yet put up pictures of any of the figures I have which are painted and orgainsed in units - I will do that next, along with more pictures of personalities and staff figures..
Where I would like to get to are reasonably certain identifications I can use on the blog for the figures for which I have pictures. I can do some further work with a later range Minifigs catalogue which has more pictures of the later counterpart figures, which give clues to horse furniture etc. Also, some figures don't seem to appear in the lists I have - scans of two old catalogues and the listing given on Vintage20mil, drawn from the same sources. Sometimes there seem to be two similar figures and it is not clear whether they are variants of the same one, or completely different figures. It is possible that some eg Crimean range figures might have crept in.
Any confirmations where I have guessed, positive identifications or helpful suggestions would be great. I have posted the list of cavalry figures from the earlier of the two catalogues I have below - they are the same but this one is easier to read. And of course there is a list under S range on Vintage20mil.
If you want to pass on any ideas or ids (smooth, eh!), please could you use the comments feature to add them to the relevant posts.
If you can help with this, thanks,
Clive
